Two school students have gone missing after they went to bathe in the Ganges at Lichubagan Ghat of Naihati police station.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning when the two friends, identified as Shubham Dey (18) and Sujal Sau (17), went to bathe in the river after playing cricket. Shubham had passed Higher Secondary from Narendra Vidyaniketan this year, while Sujal was a Class XI student in Mahendra High School.
While bathing, Sujal reportedly drowned in the river and Shubham attempted to save him, but both were swept away by the strong current.
A search operation has been launched by the Naihati police station to locate the missing students.
